Chinese Nexus brings together five innovative young artists who are at the forefront of the avant garde movement in Beijing: GAO PING, HU QINWU, HUANG XU, LAO DAN and LIU ZHUOQUAN. Each artist has a distinctive style and creative process but common to their practice is a search for meaning and spirituality beyond the political and material. Although these artists emulate a contemporary aesthetic, references to traditional scholarly techniques and feeling for poise and order convey an enduring Chinese sensibility.
