Paul Ryan usually eschews artist statements.
When pressured (for some of his Sydney shows), he always seems to have gone for the minimalist essay – maybe 200 words max. 400 at a push.
But I've always loved my art essays long and rambling.
I would even have liked to have written a long one for this show and title it 'The Visceral & the Eviscerated'. But what would that actually mean?
Ryan is probably right. Art shows should really only need the artist's...
