2013 Innovate/Curate Exhibition and Grant Applications Open

Tin Sheds is pleased to announce the third round of the Curate/Innovate Grant, offered to help encourage curatorial practice in Australia.

It is open to any individual or collective who has a curatorial idea they would like to explore. We encourage new and/or experienced curators to apply with works from a variety of backgrounds: cross-disciplinary arts, sound art, hybrid arts, performance, socially engaged practices and so on. We do not discourage curatorial proposals that include the applicant as a participating artist.

AbaF, in conjunction with Gadens Lawyers, present a seminar designed to cover specific topics related to the arts and the law, 'Choosing the right business structure for your cultural enterprise'.

This seminar will explore options for choosing the right business structure for your enterprise, and will highlight the differences between profit and not-for-profit structures, social investment and social enterprise opportunities. The session will also outline tax and regulatory changes to the not-for-profit sector and the role of board members.

Ken Done is well known as a painter of Sydney Harbour and is highly respected in both Australia and Japan. The 2012 John Fries Memorial Prize is a $10,000 annual non-aquisitive award open to Australia or New Zealand artists of all ages and disciplines, who are not enrolled as students and whose work is not held in the collection of a state, territory or national public art gallery. The prize will be judged by Wayne Tunnicliffe, Head Curator of Australian Art at the Art Gallery of NSW and artists, Bronwyn Bancroft and Kath Fries. The winner will be announced at the opening of the exhibition on Tuesday 14 August 2012.

NSW Parliament Plein Air Painting Prize awarded

The winner of the 2012 NSW Parliament Plein Air Painting Prize has been announced as Bulli artist John Bokor, who has beaten 40 other entrants to win the $20,000 cash prize.

Bokor was announced as the winner by this year’s judge M&G NSW's CEO Michael Rolfe at a special awards ceremony at Parliament, which was attended by artists, Presiding Officers of the Parliament, members of Parliament and Prize sponsors Allens, Connor & Solomon Architects and NSW Wines.

Jenny Sages wins 2012 Archibald People's Choice

Sydney artist Jenny Sages has won the 2012 Archibald People’s Choice Prize for her self-portrait, After Jack.

Jenny has been a finalist in the Archibald Prize twenty times and highly commended eight times. Jenny was a finalist in last year’s Archibald Prize with a portrait she painted of her beloved husband Jack in the last year of his life, titled My Jack.

Jenny Sages receives $2500 and a $1000 ANZ Visa Debit Card.
