Guy Warren Profile
GUY WARREN’S painting is concerned with the placement of figures into a landscape. His figures both stand in and are part of that landscape. His themes are constant, and are about presence; the mythology and metaphors we construct in order to make sense of man in nature, and equally the presence of nature in man. Warren has a deep interest in the relationship between humanity and nature, intuitively understanding that we are nature.
His paintings provide both stimulation and refuge, asking us to look inwards with focus and calm rather than outwards with outstretched hands, in turn reminding us of the opportunity and magic in life.
Guy Warren was born in Goulburn NSW in 1921, and lives and works in Sydney. He studied in Sydney, and in London at the Chelsea School of Art in the 1950’s. He has had over 50 solo exhibitions, and has participated in nearly 60 group shows since 1955, in Australia, Brazil, USA, Taiwan, Poland, and New Zealand. His paintings hang in all State galleries in Australia and in numerous institutional, corporate and private collections at home and overseas. He has also been the recipient of many prizes, grants and doctorates.
