Frida Kahlo painted 143 paintings in her lifetime. 55 of these works were self-portraits. I have often thought about Frida and how her works would have looked if she had been a pop artist; after all, Frida to me was an amazing colourist. Colour was her life. This, along with Frida Kahlo's pop culture mania became the inspiration for my 'Four Fridas Series'. I wanted to paint her, the way she may have painted herself, had she had been a pop artist.
